What can fish teach us about leadership you may ask. Quite a lot it seems…

The ocean is where I go when I need to be, to think and to replenish. My day is all the better when I have said hello to my fish, it just is. Aside from making my soul sing, what do fish have to do with Quadrant and the work I do which is to help build high-performance cultures and authentic leaders?

When considering why fish swim in schools your first thought might be that there is safety in numbers, and that is true. It is also true that a school of fish, like a flock of birds, is more resilient, adapts more readily to changing conditions, and can ultimtely travel further and faster than an individual, and that’s the link to leadership.

Today’s leaders recognise they need to embrace the challenge of inspiring and empowering the inherent capabilities of their people and unite them towards a common purpose. You only need to look at how leaders around the world have responded to the global health crisis presented by Covid-19, to know this approach is most effective. Take Jacinda Ardern and her success galvanising the population of New Zealand:

“You created a wall that meant the virus couldn’t reach those that it could easily take. And for that, there are many people who are grateful to you – their team of five million.”

– Jacinda Ardern

So how do we create the same cohesiveness in our organisations and harness the power of people working together in harmony and flow?

Quadrant partners with clients in a process which enables organisations to align an individual’s personal values with organisational values. This leads to a clear vision and footprint for the organisation which supports people to bring their whole selves to work and unleash their best thinking and contribution.
